If there was a number one beauty question that I get asked, it is almost always involving what kind of foundation I like to wear. It can sometimes be a hard question to answer, as I am guilty of often switching up my makeup routine. With that being said, there are some common denominators that I try to look for in all foundations.
The short answer: I like to switch it up based on the needs of my skin that day.
The long answer: Keep on reading!
1) Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation Stick, $52
This foundation has been a long time love of mine. I generally like to gravitate toward more medium to full coverage foundations, and this definitely fits the bill. It is extremely easy to apply, and even easier to travel with. No need to worry about spills in your makeup bag! This foundation is great for those of you who have normal to dry skin; you may not like it if you are on the oily side, as it does tend to slip on the skin. My favorite way to apply this is with a dense stippling brush (like this).
- PROS:
- full coverage
- travel friendly
- hydrating
- blends flawlessly
- CONS:
- not great for oily skin
- can feel heavy if not applied properly
2) Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, $70
I can't stress how amazing this one feels on the skin. Although it does come with a rather high price tag, it really does give an incredible look to the skin. It is very lightweight, while still giving medium to full buildable coverage. This can be applied with either a beauty sponge or a brush; I personally prefer the brush method with this one for a little added coverage. I almost feel like the sponge soaks up too much product, and I want to get my $70 worth!
- PROS
- great shade range
- lightweight
- radiant finish
- built-in pump
- CONS
- high price tag
3) Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation, $65
This is my go-to for the days where I want my skin to be the star of the look. This makes my skin look unbelievably healthy, and not overdone. The coverage is on the lighter side, allowing most of the natural marks on your skin to shine through. A little bit of spot concealing could help this, but I think that it's nice to let your natural skin shine through too! My favorite part about this foundation is the stunning glow it adds to the skin; so great for summertime!
- PROS:
- radiant, glowing finish
- moisturizing
- great for dry skin
- lightweight
- CONS:
- small shade range
- not great for oily skin
4) Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin Foundation, $15
I'll admit, the only reason I purchased this was because I saw it was 50% off at Shoppers Drug Mart. BUT, am I ever glad I did! This is a foundation that I think would work well for all skin types; it is neither matte nor dewy, making it compatible with most. It is a great price, provides a natural finish on the skin, and has great lasting power. Truly not much to complain about here!
- PROS:
- built-in pump
- medium coverage
- natural finish (neither dewy or matte)
- long wearing
- affordable price
- CONS:
- scented (some may not mind this)
5) Shiseido Synchro Skin Lasting Liquid Foundation, $58
This foundation truly has the most unique formula I have ever tried. It is very thin and lightweight, similar to MAC Face & Body, but has much more coverage. Usually with a formula this thin, I wouldn't expect a very long wear time. This somehow manages to last all day; arguably looking better at the end of the day than when I first applied it! This foundation gives your skin a natural matte finish, without making the skin feel dry.
- PROS:
- built-in pump
- lightweight
- long wearing
- medium coverage
- CONS:
- can latch to dry patches
I hope you enjoyed this post, as I really enjoyed writing it! Writing about my favorite beauty products is something I could truly do all day.
See you in the next post!
