This post has been a work in progress, let me tell you. Partially due to my perfectionist self, and partially because I wanted to be VERY careful how certain aspects of this post were worded. As you have already guessed from the title, I will be talking about my experience with lip filler.
Let me start of with one thing — I truly do not believe any person should feel the need to do anything to their bodies to make them beautiful. Period. I love that we are all different, and that every single one of us has our own quirks to make us stand out from the rest. There is a large part of me that believes that cosmetic surgery and enhancements are a little odd, and that no matter how many procedures one gets it will not make a person feel more beautiful if you don’t believe it on the inside first.
On the flip side, there is also a large part of me that thinks, hey, if someone really dislikes a certain part of their body, and has the opportunity to change that exact aspect that makes them feel insecure, why would you not? I think it is pretty incredible how much confidence one small (or big) procedure can bring someone. As you can tell, I am rather two-sided on the topic. I don’t think there’s anything necessarily wrong with that, it’s just something that I really can understand both sides to.
Above all, I believe that having that choice is the most important part here. I don’t think women should feel pressured to undergo these procedures whatsoever, and I also don’t think that women should ever feel ashamed if they do decide to go through with any cosmetic procedure. Ultimately your body is your own, and I think it is completely cool no matter what any woman choses to do with theirs.
Any by women, I mean men too of course!
Now that I’ve gotten my small disclaimer our of the way, let’s talk about my experience!
Arrival
When I first arrived at Midwest Laser Center, my eye first caught the massive floor to ceiling windows. The facility is brand new, and you can tell. It is absolutely beautiful. Everything is very clean and modern, which I absolutely appreciate! I was greeted kindly by their receptionist, and was asked to complete both a personal information form and a consent form. After those were filled out, I was taken to a separate room where the procedure would take place. This room, as well as the rest of the building, was very clean and modern.
Procedure
My lips were injected by Doctor Sabrina Stewart, MD. She was incredibly kind, and of course very knowledgable. She was able to explain to me exactly how the procedure would take place, as well as the risks involved. I think this is very important, as many people go into these procedures thinking nothing can go wrong. Is the chance of these risks coming to fruition high? Definitely not. But is it possible? Yes. She asked me what it was about my lips that I didn’t like, and I explained to her that I felt my top lip was simply too small. I really didn’t have much of one at all, to be honest. She suggested we focus the majority of the filler on the top, and put whatever is left into the bottom lip to help balance everything out. And of course, I agreed — she was the pro here!
We decided to go with a full syringe of Teosyal RHA 2; Dr. Stewart explained to me that this filler is great for lips for many reasons. I’ll insert a little blurb from a separate website that explains it best:
Since Teosyal Kiss is a product exclusively designed to be injected into the lips, it is highly cross-linked. The high cross linkage within the gel is what makes it unique and substantially stronger and more resistant to being broken down. This resistance and strength is what differentiates Teosyal Kiss from other fillers as well as other products in the Teosyal Range. This feature helps the product last from about 6 to 9 months in the lips and stay resistant to the natural mobility of lips. Depending on the patient, a top-up may be needed 4 to 6 months after the initial procedure.
Next, it was time to numb me up! I was given numbing cream that had to sit on my lips and surrounding area for approximately 15-20 minutes. This was to help ease the pain for when the actual injections take place. I looked like a child that got ahold of their mom’s lip balm and put it alllll over the bottom half of their face, and I got quite the kick out of it.
After the 20 minutes had passed, it was go time!
The Pain
When the needle first entered, I definitely felt it, and it was definitely uncomfortable. The first 2 pokes hurt the most, but once the filler started to enter my lips the pain subsided almost immediately. There is lidocaine (local anesthetic) in the filler, which explains why the pain went away so quick. I was expecting it to hurt a little more, if I’m being honest.
Aftermath
I consider myself lucky, for the reason that I experienced no bruising at all. I was swollen of course, but not nearly as much as I thought I would be. Now that it has been a month since I had the injections, I actually wish I got slightly more put in. This is something I hear veryyyy often from those I know who have had their lips done. I still absolutely LOVE how mine look, and overall, I would absolutely go through with this procedure again. I’m someone who would consistently overdraw my lips with liner to achieve the look of fuller lips, so it is really nice to be able to skip that step now in my makeup routine.
I truly can’t say enough good things about Midwest Laser Center as well. All of the staff made me feel so comfortable from the moment I arrived, and all the way until I left. Like I said earlier in the post, the facility itself was beautiful as well. Most importantly, I love the work that Dr. Stewart did on my lips. Your face is important, and it felt great knowing that I was in good hands.
I hope I covered all bases in this post, but if you are curious about absolutely anything, please don’t hesitate to ask me! You can either comment on this post or find me on Instagram (@brittanylaurens), and I will try my best to answer.
As always, thank you so much for reading!
